The Green Public Agenda in Bulgaria: Holistic or Fragmented?

Just a few days before the snap elections in Bulgaria, MOVE.BG organizes a Roundtabl with leading politicians and experts.

What is the approach to climate change in Bulgaria - holistic with a long-term vision or fragmented by topics and without a connection between different policies?

Bulgaria faces serious challenges related to the climate crisis: we continue to be the country with the most resource- and carbon-intensive economy in the European Union, some of the regions with the highest levels of air pollution are in our country, and the energy transition is stalled. At the same time, only one department in the Ministry of Environment and Waters is responsible for climate policies in Bulgaria.

On November 2, we will debate how to coordinate the green transformation in Bulgaria and will analyze the challenges and solutions to sustainable development through the prism of connection between climate and biodiversity protection, energy transition, and economic development. The online roundtable “Green Public Agenda: Holistic or Fragmented?” will meet leading experts from MOVE.BG-initiated Green Restart Coalition and politicians from the main parties in the country.

We will also discuss the proposal of the Green Restart Coalition for the establishment of an administrative structure for support of sustainable development on the national level - a special Deputy Prime Minister who should coordinate climate transition and green transformation.

The discussion will be moderated by Sasha Bezuhanova, Founder of MOVE.BG and Initiator of the Green Restart Coalition.

The event is organized by MOVE.BG in partnership with WWF Bulgaria, Greenpeace-Bulgaria, and "Institute of Circular Economy". The Roundtable will be broadcasted on the YouTube and Facebook pages of MOVE.BG on November 2 from 11:00 AM to 01:00 PM EET

The event will be in the Bulgarian language.

The Roundtable will give the floor to:

Politicians:

  • Daniel Mitov, GERB-UDF
  • Dragomir Stoynev, BSP for Bulgaria
  • Kiril Petkov, We Continue the Change
  • Ivan Hinkovski, There is Such a People
  • Borislav Sandov, Democratic Bulgaria-Union
  • Stanislav Anastasov, Movement for Rights and Freedoms
