The moderator of the discussion was Toni Nikolov - editor-in-chied of the website Kultura.

What did the participants and moderator share on this topic?

Summary of discussion

The moderator Tony Nikolov underlined that, it is indeed very common in Bulgarian history to look back into Renaissance époque. "A country is awakened when it raises its elite and when it’s able to redefine its future”, says Nikolov.  According to him, we are repeatedly asking ourselves about the Renaissance because we have the quality to evolve and develop constantly over time.

For Eugenia Peeva the Renaissance is a process of constant renewal, which is the only way to progress in the new global and dynamic society.  Separately, she stressed the role of education as its main pillar.  According to her, there are three factors that determine the change: 1) human capital, 2) activity of citizens, and 3) common vision for the direction and purpose.  The lack of vision makes the Bulgarians passive.

According to Victor Dimchev, the biggest problem in Bulgaria is that "we do not know what we do”, because there isn’t a long-term perspective.  For him it’s a consequence of the fact, that we don’t love either ourselves, or each other.  Producer thinks that our negative attitude is due to understanding "that someone has taken something from us”.  “Nobody really has taken anything away from us; we toke it from ourselves. "

Mario Mishev:” It is very important for Bulgaria to remember not only its success but also its mistakes of the past that it can learn from them. The student said that after traveling all over the country, he is convinced that Bulgaria needs a new revival. The young man called for more action and for unity of all Bulgarians.

According to Sasha Bezuhanova, year 2013 showed that in Bulgaria there are many people who are awakened, who wish to participate in the civil society process.  She noted that a huge change is happening globally – on one hand, the technology brings people together, on the other “ the axioms that moved the world yesterday, are not valid today.  “New models of leadership and management are required, which is a chance for Bulgaria”.  Bezuhanova regretfully pointed out that the problem of geostrategic orientation of Bulgaria, which everyone thought was already solved, today surprisingly is live again. The Bulgarians, we have to come together, but not in the "party pyramid". Each one of us should come forward with its own expertise and qualities and all together we should look at a common direction.
