MOVE.BG has joined “New European Bauhaus” - a European Commission's initiative to stimulate the green transition through innovation and collaboration between the creative industries and architecture. The movement, established in the autumn of 2020, aims to show how the European Green Deal climate neutrality targets can make a real positive change in our lives. Becoming the New European Bauhaus Community Member is a logical step in MOVE.BG's work to trigger collaboration between innovators from different sectors and our efforts to support sustainable development and back innovative creators who carry the ideas of the New Time.

The New European Bauhaus

The Von der Leyen Commission initiative is inspired by the Bauhaus, one of the most significant cross-disciplinary movements of the 20th century, which emerged in Germany in 1919 and was led by Walter Gropius. Bauhaus was a movement that completely changed trends in architecture and contemporary design, and therefore, its new continuation aims to support green recovery after the coronavirus and the implementation of the Green Deal. The initiative connects art, culture, science, innovation, and technology with design and architecture, putting the reconnection between man and nature at its center.

The New European Bauhaus brings together architects, designers, artists, students, scientists, engineers, and others inspired by the idea of turning Europe into a global green leader. The initiative involves several activities, working simultaneously:

  • A forum for discussion;
  • A space for culture and art;
  • A laboratory for experimentation and innovation;
  • An accelerator for innovative projects;
  • Programs for funding innovative projects;
  • Hubs for connecting global networks and experts;
  • A platform that will translate green regeneration in an understandable way to the general public.

"The New European Bauhaus is part of our broader vision: Building the world of tomorrow for a tomorrow that is greener, more beautiful and humane,” says Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.

MOVE.BG and the New European Bauhaus

Joining the New European Bauhaus is a logical step for MOVE.BG. Since the organization's establishment in 2013, fostering cross-divisional cooperation, supporting sustainable development in Bulgaria, and backing innovative artists have always been among the main areas of our activities. The ChangeMakers of Bulgaria is the first national network for connecting the drivers of change in Bulgaria who are improving the environment by creating innovative projects in the fields of sustainability, digital entrepreneurship, innovative art, as well as innovative community initiatives.

Our program “Solutions for Bulgaria: Culture” helps to connect and popularize innovative Bulgarian artists. We organize exhibitions, performances, and meetings of the new generation of artists.

Our special program “Urban Jungle” supports the restoration of the balance between man and nature through various initiatives - we organize discussions and trainings, publish special manuals for composting and sustainable working from home, and popularize innovative Bulgarian entrepreneurs. MOVE.BG is a partner of the global initiative to restore biodiversity by 2030 Leaders' Pledge for Nature, the network of European green and high-tech startups Greentech Alliance, as well as tech2impact - the global program in support of entrepreneurial projects working on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).

In 2020, we initiated the establishment of the Green Restart Coalition, which brings together the innovation community and environmental organizations with the mission to support Bulgaria's green transformation. The coalition organizes roundtables with politicians and experts to discuss sustainable development, its challenges, and opportunities, we publish opinion papers on important topics related to the green transformation such as improving the National Recovery and Resilience Plan or improving the management of the green transition of Bulgaria. We run special campaigns and projects such as the “Bulgaria’s Future History Textbook” which shows how our country can become one of the green and innovative leaders in Europe.

A few weeks ago, we published the special report “Mission Green Bulgaria”, which contains over 150 identified challenges to Bulgaria's sustainable development and over 150 recommendations for reforms to overcome them. The report is based on the recommendations of over 50 of Bulgaria's leading experts on the topics of innovative economy, energy transition, bioeconomy, biomass, smart cities, nature-based solutions, and sustainable finance.
